Welcome to iComic, the premier application for reading comics on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

iComic makes great use of the multi-touch function for simple and effective page navigation and zooming to provide the best portable comic book read you will find. iComic displays high resolution comic pages (jpg, tif, or png image files) contained inside compressed zip or cbz format archives. Using the built-in download function, comics can be downloaded from the internet or from a personal server and stored locally on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Your downloaded comics are stored on your device and so are always available for reading, even when you have no internet connection.

As iTunes resizes images to a compressed format, iComic is also useful for displaying images for other uses e.g. maps, high detailed photos and ebooks (convert your pdf books to jpeg and you have a perfect reader for those large pdf files, normally unreadable due to the high memory requirement).

iComic currently provides three methods for turning pages: swiping your finger on the screen; by taps in the screen corners using the Corner-Tap method; or by Multi-Touch (tap once to page forward, twice to page back). Zooming is by the familiar pinch method used in Safari and other applications or by double tapping the screen when in Corner-Tap mode. The application is very stable and can easily handle zip files up to 60MB with infrequent problems observed with files of much larger size. Individual image files inside the zip files are constrained to a maximum 3 million pixels (e.g. 3,000 pixels high x 1,000 pixels wide or equivalent) though for the sake of battery conservation much smaller sizes (~1000 pixels high) are generally used.

A manual for setting up and using iComic can be downloaded from http://red.halfmoon.jp/AppStore_iComic_V1.3_FAQ.pdf

Pros and cons of iComic -comic reader- app for iPhone and iPad

iComic -comic reader- app good for

... needs the support of the .cbr files and an easiest way to transfer file (maybe over WIFI like "Files lite" appli). Guy, if you can do that, your appll definitively become a must have !! :D Thanks a lot for your job !
This program does fill a few gaps when it comes to displaying images on the iPhone. Using the built-in solution, images are scaled down and - upon zooming in - greatly lose in quality. iComic is a nice remedy. There are still a few points that might be improved, however, such as additional organizing and renaming of the file list as well as other optional ways of uploading comics. A piece of advice though: instead of downloading comics or mangas from the internet, you should try to follow the short tutorial on the programmers site and set up an HFS to transfer files from your pc or mac to the iphone. It works surprisingly fast and reliably. icomicをありがとうございます。本当に便利です。
I have read about 5GB manga with this app. It works perfect in all situations. Buy it, you wont regret it.
This application is fantastic when it comes to viewing comics. Ive found it a pleasure to use. Where it falls down, though, is getting archives onto your iPod/iPhone. You need to host the application and specify the full server name, path, and filename of the comic you wish to download. You can simplify this process somewhat by following the authors instructions in creating and index text file. However I ended up writing a script to simplify the process of getting all my files into an index for downloading. If this doesnt put you off, buy this app. Its the best solution Ive found yet for not only comics but also converted PDFs.
Excellent! After a bit of confusion at the start I managed to transfer my comics and this app works damn well.
This is a really good app for reading comics on the iphone/itouch. To get the best out of this app - use ifunbox to transfer the comic files on and off your device. The only caveat is that the photo dimensions of the pages cant be too large or this app will skip over those.

Some bad moments

Ideas of new features that appear useful for me i hope some of them will inspired you : -display page number like "currentpage/totalpages" in transparency for 2 seconds in a corner or else... -permute view in horizontal position for a larger and comfortable reading -ftp support -a double touch zoom more smooth and quick as possible -turn pages by friction more reactive with the grab system like the main screen on iphone for chose applications, with differents animations type like cube , simple slide, mosaic -turn pages by shaking could be funny -the possibility of creating folders and moving files in it or out -UPNP support for users with a nas server , re crazy ok thats a lot but i think the more urgent is a different way to upload the files so good luck we are waiting impatiently next update great job!!
I bought this recently as there are only a couple of apps for the iPod/iPhone that let you read comics in CBR/CBZ format. I was excited to try this but was soon dissapointed. The app has a lot of potential but needs work. The worst thing is getting the comics on the application. You need to set up a web server to do this. I used Apache. You also need to type in each comic individually on the iPod to get it transfered. Some sort of click and drag import is really needed. Once a comic is loaded, the response time is slow zooming in and panning around the page. Its just sluggish. Hope to see an updated version soon. The one I bought was v1.1. Ill use ComicZeal for now.
The instructions are very flacky and dont match the directories on my iPhone 3GS. I know Im only out 99. But the app didnt work as advertised. Additionally sample files from the developers site disappeared when downloaded.
I am using windows 7, and I know how to turn this apps FTP on, but after I connected to its FTP site, I cannot upload any file to it due to some unknown permission error. I am unable to upload my comic files at all. Pretty disappointed.
how about just cbr files/// just drop and thats all/// why i need do enithing else...
Im an iphone 4 user with 4.0.2 firmware. After I upgrade to 3.3.4, whenever I hit home button during reading, it will be in landscape mode the next time I open the app to keep reading! There is no way to change it back to portrait mode during the reading again. It will stay landscape forever even if i quit the app and reopen. Please fix! Update: the 3.3.5 update still doesnt fix the bug! Please fix the bug!!!
